In Kharkiv, a woman will be tried for marrying draft dodgers for $5,000

As reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a 29-year-old woman posted advertisements in a Facebook group offering to enter into a fake marriage with men who want to avoid mobilization and leave the country.

«The accused traveled from the Vinnytsia region to the «clients» on her own, arranging the «marriage» at their place of residence. She demanded $5,000 from draft evaders for such a «service»,» explained law enforcement officers.

She was detained in Kharkiv after entering into a fake marriage with a «client», the prosecutor’s office added.

She is charged with organizing and facilitating the illegal crossing of people across Ukraine’s state border by providing advice, instructions, and removing obstacles, committed for monetary gain (Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The woman will be tried in the Moskovskyi District Court of Kharkiv.

If proven guilty, she faces seven to nine years of imprisonment, with disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years, along with the confiscation of property.
