Zelenskyy: Martial law may be lifted after the end of the active phase of the war

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that martial law is likely to be lifted after the active phase of the war is over, after which elections may take place in the country.

At the same time, he emphasized that he will not allow a ceasefire without clear security guarantees, as this could only give Putin an opportunity to regroup and resume aggression.

«A ceasefire may be part of concluding the hot phase of the war. But without security guarantees, it’s just a pause before a new attack. If the war truly ends, then martial law is likely to be lifted. But then the parliament must make appropriate decisions regarding elections», – Zelenskyy noted in an interview with The Economist.
