Searches in the HQCJ: The SBI is investigating possible interference in judicial exams

A search is being conducted this morning at the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine. It is carried out by employees of the State Bureau of Investigations.

This is reported by media sources in the State Bureau of Investigations.

Yesterday, on March 10, the Pechersk Court of Kyiv granted permission for the search.

According to the investigation, on July 9, 2024, during the judges’ qualification exam, unknown individuals might have interfered with the automated system of the HQCJU, improperly forming test questions and granting access to them to third parties.

Previously, investigators had temporary access to documents related to the testing of judges from 2021 to 2024 but were unable to seize them. Therefore, the court granted permission for a search to identify and seize documents and other materials important for the investigation.

According to sources, one of the case figures is the Deputy Head of the HQC Oleksiy Omelyan.

Sources also report that Omelyan maintained friendly relations with the former judge of the Makariv District Court of Kyiv region, Tandyr, who, according to the prosecution, in May 2023, returning from fishing (where, according to sources, he was with Omelyan), in his car and under the influence of alcohol, fatally struck a National Guard serviceman on duty at a checkpoint.

Sources report that Omelyan was questioned in the framework of Tandyr’s case and gave testimony beneficial to the defense. In particular, he claimed that the fishing participants did buy alcoholic beverages, but he did not see anyone consuming alcohol at the fishing table.
