Russians attacked Dnipro: Potemkin Palace was damaged, it will be renamed in honor of Sahaidachny
On the night of March 27, Russians massively attacked Dnipro with "Shaheds". Significant destruction was caused, including to historical landmarks.
In particular, the Potemkin Palace building was damaged. This was reported by Channel 24 referring to the mayor of Dnipro Borys Filatov.
After the shelling, on the morning of March 27, Filatov emotionally addressed the Russians.
I know you read me. So I will write in Russian. What kind of complete scoundrels (and also stupid) do you have to be to shoot at the very center of the city, at a dense residential area, and in the process destroy the historic building of the palace of Grand Duke Potemkin, which he built for Catherine I? The building is a symbol of imperial power,
– wrote the mayor of Dnipro.
He added that the building would be restored. Currently, it is the Palace of Students and Youth of the Dnipro National University named after Oles Honchar.
At the same time, Filatov announced intentions to rename the historic landmark.
"We will rename it in honor of Hetman Sahaidachny. Who set Moscow on fire," he said.
According to Suspilne, glass and window frames on three floors of the building were shattered. The consequences of the attack are currently being eliminated by the institution’s staff and utility services. Volunteers are assessing the damage caused.
