Trump urged Putin to "make a deal" to end the war in Ukraine
Donald Trump expressed his desire for Russian leader Vladimir Putin to "make a deal" to end the war in Ukraine.
This is reported by CNN.
According to the US President, Putin will eventually conclude all matters and agree to stop the war. He added that he does not really want to impose tariffs on Russian oil, as he mentioned earlier.
"I want him to make a deal so that we stop the killings of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers and other people. I want to make sure he finishes these matters, and I think he will. I do not want to impose secondary tariffs on his oil," Trump said during a conversation with reporters at the White House.
He also drew attention to the topic of Ukraine’s minerals. The US President stated that the Ukrainian side allegedly demands NATO membership in exchange for signing the agreement.
"We were ready to make a deal regarding rare earth metals. Everything was almost settled. And I learned from you (the press)... I haven’t had the chance to talk to them yet, but through you, I learned that they now say, ’We will sign this deal if we join NATO,’ or something to that effect. First of all, this was never discussed. Secondly, I believe that even before Putin, they were told that they would not be accepted into NATO," the head of the White House said.
The American leader added that the issue of Ukraine’s NATO membership or its aspirations may have been the reason for the start of the war.
