The Head of the Department for Execution of Punishments of the Ministry of Justice, Yevhen Horobets, reported that over 8,000 former convicts have joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Another 900 applications are under consideration.

It should be noted that since August last year, a new law has been in place allowing convicts serving sentences for certain offenses to be released and continue their service in the army. This step is part of efforts to strengthen the country’s defense capability in times of war.
