Zelenskyy: Ukraine wants to buy weapons from the USA for 50 billion dollars

This was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a meeting with journalists.

In Zelenskyy’s opinion, Ukraine has not yet exhausted the military aid package agreed upon by former U.S. President Joe Biden.

"Regarding aid under Biden. Honestly, I don’t remember the timelines. It seems to me that the aid was provided without being tied to specific deadlines throughout this time. So, I wouldn’t tie it to timelines. The important thing is the volume of funds. Is it exhausted? No. We have something to count on," the president noted.

However, he added that Ukraine had already submitted a request to the American side for an additional aid package it seeks to purchase.

"We have submitted a large package to the American side that we want to purchase. Purchase in one form or another. It’s our format, how we will pay for it," the president added.

Air Defence as a Security Guarantee

Zelenskyy emphasized that the future military support package from the U.S. was not requested for free by Ukraine.

"We consider it even as a security guarantee. How to link our agreement with a security guarantee? Very simply. Give us the package, we will pay for it, and we consider this very package, which includes air defence systems and other necessary tools, as a security guarantee. That’s how they are all connected," Zelenskyy stressed.

The head of state said he discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump the issue of air defence and asked to sell defence systems worth tens of billions of dollars.

"I told him on the phone, give us at least ten. This is protection, this is aid after the war ends, this is a security guarantee that Ukraine will be protected by air defence. There are many different formats and tools we are ready for. We were ready to find 30 and 50 billion for the corresponding package," Zelenskyy emphasized.
