Zelenskyy: Contracts for reconstruction will be given to those countries that are helping Ukraine now
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noted that there is a priority for the countries that will participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war, and among them, there will be no countries that supported Russia.
Zelenskyy stated this during a conversation with journalists.
"Those who supported Russia will definitely not be involved. That is a fact. How could someone assist in destruction and then profit from rebuilding? It’s absolutely illogical," Zelenskyy emphasized.
He stated that "the priority is for the countries that will participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine — those countries that supported Ukraine during the war."
"Undoubtedly, this is financial support. Weapons are also finances. Whether it is weapons, energy, or direct injections into Ukraine’s state budget. There are many countries that have directly supported regions of our country, helping everyone. For example, Japan did not provide weapons, but we understand how 15 billion financed Ukraine’s resilience, primarily in the energy sector. In other words, there is a priority for countries that will be involved in the reconstruction," the president stated.
Zelenskyy explained that such an order was implemented because "the reconstruction will not happen for free," and therefore, the priority will be for EU countries.
"This is money. What kind? Primarily, the money of the European Union. The countries of Europe. This means that, first of all, these will be European Union companies. It would simply look strange if Europe financed, and people from other markets came and rebuilt. I’m explaining who is in priority," he added.
In addition, according to Zelenskyy, the United States also holds priority.
"And the Americans are absolutely right in saying: well, forgive us, but why should those who do not help be the ones to profit? There is no altruism here, and there was no altruism shown towards Ukraine by one country or another. This does not mean that something will be forbidden to anyone. Maybe we will not recommend to our regions to have joint projects with countries that did not help Ukraine in any way," the president added.
