The DIU showed the launches of S-200 that destroyed A-50 and Tu-22M3

The Ukrainian intelligence demonstrated footage of the defeat of enemy forces by the modernized S-200 missile system. The video shows the preparation of the 5V28 anti-aircraft missile and the moment of its launch.

Also, the new video shows modern unmanned aerial vehicles and the consequences of the strike on the Russian base "Engels," overpasses, and oil bases.

What Defense Express Writes

This is the first official demonstration of Ukraine using the 5V28 anti-aircraft missile from the S-200 anti-aircraft missile system. It took two years from the moment of its first known use: in July 2023, an then-unknown missile arrived in Taganrog.

Last year, Russian A-50 DRLV aircraft and the long-range bomber Tu-22M3, which was shot down at a record distance of 308 km on April 19, 2024, were destroyed with it.

At the same time, the publication’s analysts note that the footage shows that these missiles were launched more than once from these locations, as indicated by the traces of jet engine operation on the ground. Apparently, old launch positions were used for launching these missiles.

According to their data, there are several important moments in the video that explain some aspects of the real "revival" of elements of the Soviet-era ZRK from the ’60s. For the launch, a standard fixed 5P72V launcher was used, not a newly created mobile version as previously believed.

"Moreover, the footage shows that these missiles were launched more than once from these locations, as indicated by the traces of jet engine operation on the ground. At the same time, it is evident that old launch positions were used for launching these missiles," experts write.

According to Defence Express, all this indicates how risky these operations were. Since the launcher is completely immobile, the possibility of avoiding a strike is absent. Preparation for the launch is conducted directly at this launcher, during which the missile is fueled with rather toxic liquid fuel, requiring the use of a chemical protection suit.

The 5V28 missile itself has not undergone external changes. However, all possible changes might affect the electronics. Among the possible options is the use of a different target illumination radar for the standard semi-active homing head or the installation of a new active radar homing head, possibly passive in the case of the A-50 shootdown.
