Zelenskyy: Russia’s refusal of a ceasefire will show Putin’s unwillingness to end the war
Zelenskyy stated that if Russia refuses to support a 30-day ceasefire agreement at today’s negotiations, it will be proof of Putin’s unwillingness to end the war. He also urged for increased sanctions against Russia in such a case.
If it indeed proves impossible to agree on a ceasefire at the meeting, similar statements can be expected from Europeans, as well as comments that the negotiations ended in failure.
However, there is only one person who will decide whether the meeting was successful or not, and whether Putin desires peace. That person is Trump.
If he supports Kyiv’s side and states that Moscow sabotaged the negotiations and showed unwillingness to end the war, and also announces the implementation of some measures against the Kremlin, it will be one situation.
However, if Trump says that the parties should continue the dialogue and he plans to meet with Putin himself, it is quite likely that the Ukrainian leadership will agree to another meeting with Russia, regardless of what they say after this meeting.
