The SBI suspects officers of concealing a serviceman’s suicide in the Kyiv region

Employees of the SBI have charged a former deputy commander of a military unit from the Kyiv region and a member of the committee conducting a service investigation. The officials falsified the results of the investigation into the death of a serviceman, concealing the fact of suicide. Based on the forged documents, the family of the deceased was unjustifiably paid a one-time financial aid of 15 million hryvnias.

This was reported in a statement by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

“The investigation established that the officials, whose duty was to ensure the comprehensiveness, completeness, and objectivity of the service investigation, deliberately did not examine all the circumstances of the death. Knowing with certainty about the fact of suicide, they drafted and signed a falsified report stating that the serviceman died while performing a combat task,” the statement said.

The former officials have been charged under Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional failure by a military official to perform actions that they were obliged to perform if it caused grave consequences, committed under martial law.

The total amount of damage to the state is 15 million hryvnias.
