Nauseda "not too optimistic" that the war in Ukraine will end by 2028
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda expressed doubts that Russia’s war against Ukraine will end in the next three years due to the lack of appropriate will from Russia.
He stated this upon arrival at the EU summit in Brussels.
"I hope for a resolution to the war in Ukraine before the start of the next multiannual EU budget (which begins in 2028. – Ed.). However, right now I am not very optimistic. I don’t see light at the end of the tunnel," – said Nausėda.
According to him, this is related to Russia’s unwillingness and its simulation of negotiations.
"I consider a ceasefire to be a mandatory condition for any peace agreement. And currently, such discussions are absent. Therefore, our response must be clear and resolute, we must implement the 18th package of sanctions," – emphasized the President of Lithuania, calling the new package powerful and sufficient if there are no exceptions or relaxations.
