In Ternopil, a mother drowned her child during bathing and attempted to commit suicide

In Ternopil, a woman fell from a five-story building. A few hours before that, she drowned her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter while bathing, after which she decided to commit suicide. The head of Ternopil region police, Serhiy Zyubanenkо, reported that the woman had postpartum depression and had previously undergone treatment.

As stated by the press service of the Ternopil police, the incident occurred around 5:00 AM in the "Druzhba" residential area. A woman born in 1992 fell from the fifth floor window. The investigative-operative group of the police and an emergency medical team arrived at the scene.

According to law enforcement, the woman was diagnosed with multiple fractures. She is currently in the intensive care unit.

The woman stated that she attempted to commit suicide because a few hours before, she drowned her 2.5-year-old daughter in the bathtub while bathing her. She later tried to resuscitate the child, but it was unsuccessful.

The head of the Ternopil region police, Serhiy Zyubanenkо, noted that the woman had postpartum depression. She had previously undergone treatment in specialized institutions.

«At the time of the tragedy, there was no one near the woman and her daughter, resulting in an irreparable situation», — he wrote on Facebook.

The police have opened a criminal proceeding regarding this fact. It is being investigated as the intentional murder of a minor child.
