The USA wants to use frozen Russian assets to return kidnapped Ukrainian children

"The President of the United States may be granted the right to use frozen Russian assets to assist children abducted by Russia! A bipartisan bill has been presented in the US Senate to enhance United States support in identifying and returning Ukrainian children abducted by the Russian Federation and holding those responsible accountable," she informed.

The Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament noted that the bill was developed by Senators Amy Klobuchar (Democrat) and Chuck Grassley (Republican).

According to the bill, US government entities and federal agencies are to provide Ukraine with technical and other assistance:

• in supporting investigations of child abductions, their identification, and information gathering, including open-source intelligence, as well as in holding accountable those guilty of these crimes;
• in providing Ukrainian children abducted by the Russian Federation with medical and psychological rehabilitation services, family support services, reintegration into society, legal assistance, accommodation, and educational needs.

It is also expected that the US government will harmonize discrepancies in sanctions lists with the United Kingdom and the European Union to more effectively hold accountable those involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children.

Meanwhile, it is proposed that the President of the United States will be able to use any Russian sovereign assets located in the United States for the purposes of this law.

"I am grateful to the senators for this important legislative initiative aimed at direct support and reintegration of children who have been returned. Equally important is the practical assistance in identifying abducted children and ensuring fair punishment for all involved in these crimes. I hope this law will resonate with American lawmakers and be voted on in the US Congress," Kondratiuk added.
