Zelenskyy explained why the meeting with Putin must be unconditional

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that meetings between Ukraine and Russia, as well as a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, Russia, and the USA, should take place without any preconditions. The head of state noted that there is no mention of even a ceasefire during the negotiations.

This position was reached after talks at the White House between US President Donald Trump and European leaders. Zelenskyy announced this during a briefing in Washington.

After several hours of negotiations at the White House, the parties concluded that a bilateral meeting between Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin should take place first. Only after that will a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine and Russia be organized with the participation of US President Trump.

In addition, Zelenskyy stated that bilateral and trilateral meetings of the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, and the USA should occur without any conditions, including without a ceasefire.

"If Ukraine starts setting conditions for the meeting, some global and undoubtedly fair ones – regarding a ceasefire and so on – then the Russians will come up with 100 conditions on their side. Therefore, I believe that we should meet without any conditions and think about how to further develop the path to ending the war," Zelenskyy said.

The President of the United States called the Russian dictator immediately after the talks with European leaders. The Kremlin confirmed that they are ready for a meeting between Ukraine and Russia at the highest level. According to preliminary information, Trump will also participate in organizing the meeting.

It is also known that the meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin is planned to be organized by the end of August. The location of the meeting is expected to be announced in the near future.
