The remains of another 1000 fallen individuals, whom the Russian side claims to be Ukrainian servicemen, have been returned to Ukraine.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War (CHTPW) on Tuesday, August 19.

"Unfortunately, among those returned are the bodies of five Ukrainian servicemen who died in captivity. They were considered ’seriously wounded and critically ill’ prisoners for exchange according to the agreements in Istanbul during the second round of negotiations," the statement noted.

It is indicated that the Russian side continues to delay and fails to fulfill its commitments. Ukraine, however, insists on the immediate release of all seriously ill and severely wounded captives and fights for the return of all its citizens.

Among those returned today "on the shield" are also defenders from the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Luhansk, and Kursk directions.

In the near future, investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct all necessary examinations and carry out the identification of the returned bodies.
