SBGS: A Ukrainian died during an illegal border crossing in the Odesa region

On Tuesday, September 2, in the Odesa region, a citizen of Ukraine died while illegally crossing the state border.

This was reported by the Southern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS).

"In the Odesa region, warning shots were fired by the border patrol while pursuing border violators. Before this, unknown persons moving towards the state border did not respond to the border guards’ demands to stop," the press service said.

The man was detained while overcoming an engineering barrier. Another person was found with no signs of life and a gunshot wound.

The SBGS added that investigative actions are currently underway. The police are examining the actions of the border patrol.

The situation has been reported to, among others, the National Police and the State Bureau of Investigation, who have arrived at the scene.

"The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has, in turn, initiated a service investigation into this incident and is providing all necessary assistance to the investigators to establish all the details," they concluded.
