The Ukrainian lieutenant colonel refused a salary in the Russian FSB and worked “ideologically,” although he himself comes from Volyn.

SSU Head Vasyl Malyuk spoke about the exposure of Russian agents in the Khortytsya specialised military unit. The special service, together with the then commander of Khortytsia, Oleksandr Syrskyi, exposed an enemy mole with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Malyuk said this in an interview with the ICTV TV channel published on 25 March.

The head of the SSU answered the question about the motivation of the aggressor country’s accomplices, recalling the case of the Khortytsya operational and strategic group of troops.

According to Malyuk, the SSU, together with Syrskyi, who was then the head of Khortytsia, "developed and implemented" a Russian agent, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who worked there. The SSU head noted that Syrskyi helped the special service with documentation.

"It was clear that he (the Russian agent - ed.) was passing all possible intelligence information to the enemy, information from various information flows in Ukraine, including restricted information. We managed to identify and detain him. He was a lieutenant colonel," Malyuk said.

He also shared that he was surprised when he learned that the detained lieutenant colonel refused his salary at the Russian FSB and worked “ideologically,” although he was from Volyn.
