The SSU stated that Telegram cooperates with Roskomnadzor and the FSB

The Telegram messenger is cooperating with Roskomnadzor and the FSB, said Oleksandr Melnychenko, a representative of the SSU’s Department for Counterintelligence Protection of the State’s Interests in the Field of Information Security, the Center for Strategic Communications reported on Thursday, 28 March.

“We see clear cooperation between Telegram and Roskomnadzor and the FSB. When the FSB needs to block any channel on the territory of the Russian Federation, Telegram carries out these instructions instantly,” Melnychenko said during the Kyiv Stratcom Forum 2024, organized by the Center for Strategic Communications.

He also admitted that Telegram servers access Russian territory, and noted that the owner and developers of the messenger are citizens of the Russian Federation.

Melnychenko emphasized that the Security Service of Ukraine is trying to de-anonymize administrators of Telegram channels engaged in destructive activities.

“Sometimes it is possible to block some of them, but Telegram does not listen to the requests of Ukraine as much as to the requests of the Russian Federation,” the SSU representative noted.
