Law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings into the shooting by the invaders of three Ukrainian prisoners of war near the village Krynky, Kherson region, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

“Under the procedural leadership of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into violation of the laws and customs of war, coupled with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the department said in a telegram channel on Saturday.

According to the prosecutor’s office, on April 7, 2024, a video recording was published in one of the telegram channels, which recorded how the Russian military shot three captured Ukrainian soldiers.

“The video shows how a representative of the Russian Armed Forces fires several shots at unarmed, stationary military personnel, presumably from a machine gun. The description under the recording indicates that the event occurred near Krynki, Oleshki community, Kherson region,” the message clarifies.

The Office of the Prosecutor General notes that the murder of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by the State Administration for Police in the Kherson region.
