According to the Chief of the Estonian General Staff, Major General Enno Mots, Russia is exploiting vulnerabilities throughout the theater of operations.
Russian forces continue to advance on the Ukrainian front, and a comparison of maps over the past 11 months has shown some additional Russian successes on the battlefield.
Newsweek writes about this.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) publishes map updates daily. The map for May 22, 2023 reflects President Vladimir Putin’s announcement that his troops had captured Bakhmut. A map published on Tuesday shows that the area to the south around Avdeevka is now under Russian control.

Russian troops captured Avdiivka on 19 February and have since advanced further. The latest map shows the offensive in the neighbouring settlements: Semenivka, Krasnohorivka and Novobakhmutivka. After capturing Avdiivka, Russian troops intensified their attack on Chasiv Yar.
Detailed maps of Bakhmut and the surrounding area from 22 July 2023 and a more recent map show that the Russian Armed Forces have advanced from Chasiv Yar. The yellow shading shows that Russia controls more territory than it did 11 months ago, particularly around Ivanivske and Bohdanivka.

Nazar Voloshyn, a spokesman for the Khortytsia operational and strategic grouping, told Politico that the capture of Chasovyi Yar would allow Russia to launch an offensive against other towns in Donetsk region, such as Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. This line is the last defence in the region that is still under Ukrainian control. According to Kyiv, Moscow plans to capture Chasiv Yar by 9 May.
Estonia’s Chief of General Staff, Major General Enno Mots, said that Russia has intensified its frontline operations and deep strike campaigns to weaken Ukraine’s will and take advantage of Ukraine’s lack of military equipment.
He called the attempts of Russian troops to exploit vulnerabilities across the theatre "amoeba tactics".
A map of the Luhansk region on Tuesday (16 April) shows Russian troops reportedly advancing to the eastern outskirts of Terny. Areas shaded in yellow show that the Russian Armed Forces now have slightly less territory north of Stelmakhivka compared to 22 May 2023, but more territory in the Torske area.

In the Zaporozhye region, maps show a change in position further south. The blue shading shows the scale of the Ukrainian counter-offensive south of Malaya Tokmachka and Kamensky.

ISW analysts said in a recent briefing that Russian forces are experiencing morale problems and are using small groups to launch attacks in eastern Ukraine.
