On 22 May, the Khmelnytskyi City District Court granted all 50 applications for conditional release of convicts who expressed a desire to mobilise to the armed forces to participate in the war.

This was reported by the press service of the court.

It is reported that all petitions came from the State Institution "Raikivetska Correctional Colony (No. 78)".

The trial took place in open court sessions via video conferencing, during which judges had the opportunity to communicate with the convicted.

“The court established the circumstances of writing these statements and that they were voluntary. As some of the men said, they expressed a desire to serve and defend the country even during the consideration of their cases in the courts, but at that time such an opportunity was not yet provided for by law. Together with However, according to the convicts, a large number of people remain in the correctional colony who do not want to be discharged on parole in this way,” the court said in a statement.

It is reported that the overwhelming number of volunteers are young men, mostly convicted of theft. During court hearings, they said that there were no special skills for military service, but they expressed confidence that they would be able to master them quite quickly.

“Many convicts pointed out during videoconferences that their relatives and friends died because of the war, including those who participated in the defense of Ukraine, which serves as additional motivation for them,” notes the court’s press service.

As previously reported, no later than 24 hours after the entry into force of law, representatives of the National Guard must deliver those on parole to the Khmelnytskyi District TRC to conclude a contract and perform military service in a military unit designated for them.

The court also places men under administrative supervision for a period of 1 year, but no longer than until their dismissal from military service. Such supervision will be carried out by the commanders of the military unit, under whom they will serve under contract.

Among the restrictions for those discharged on parole is a ban on being outside the location of the military unit and traveling on personal business without the permission of the commander.
