In what cases can police officers detain and bring persons liable for military service to the TRC

On May 18, the new Law on Mobilization came into force. According to it, police have the right to check the military registration documents of those liable for military service on the street and in public places, as well as detain them and deliver them to the TRC.

At the same time, the law clearly regulates how police can act if, during an inspection, those liable for military service do not have certain documents. The head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhovskyi, told the Interfax-Ukraine agency about this.

Thus, if a citizen, during an inspection, presents a document proving his identity, but does not have a military registration document with him, the police officer must document this fact. Next, he sends materials to the TRC and SS to provide a legal assessment of the person’s actions.

This algorithm of action is used if the police did not receive a request from the TRC to deliver this particular person to the military registration and enlistment office.

However, such detention may last no longer than three hours.
