Germany suggested that NATO shoot down Russian missiles over Lviv
Roderich Kiesewetter does not rule out the deployment of Western ground forces - on the basis of the UN Charter.
EU and NATO countries could protect the airspace in western Ukraine, said Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the Bundestag from the opposition CDU party.
According to the German politician, the air defense of EU and NATO countries from the Baltics or Scandinavia could take control of up to 100 kilometers deep into the territory of Ukraine, which would allow the Ukrainian army to deploy its forces further east, near the front, reports Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung .
He notes that NATO air defenses can shoot down Russian missiles over Lviv and western Ukraine. At the same time, he does not rule out the deployment of Western ground forces - on the basis of the UN Charter: we are talking about field hospitals, mine clearance or logistics support and repair troops, which could relieve the burden on the corresponding Ukrainian forces.
At the same time, he warns that if Ukraine loses, we can expect a massive flow of refugees, and “the war will spread to Western Europe.”
“Russia will deprive Ukraine of access to the Black Sea,” “will take Moldova, and they will use hybrid measures and provocations to try to take over parts of Estonia (...) or parts of Latvia,” says a defense expert in the conservative bloc.
He also reproaches the German federal government for its indecisiveness and for the fact that other European countries, given their respective economic power, provide more specific assistance.
