Macron supports Ukrainian strikes on military bases on Russian territory
French President Emmanuel Macron spoke in favor of allowing Kyiv to carry out strikes on military targets on the territory of the Russian Federation, from which attacks are carried out on Ukraine.
The French President stated this at a joint briefing with German Chancellor Scholz.
Macron also expressed the opinion that supplies to Ukraine of long-range weapons capable of hitting Russian military targets are not an escalation of the conflict.
However, he did not specify whether France had granted such permission to Ukraine.
“How do we explain to the Ukrainians that they are not allowed to attack points from which missiles are launched? In fact, we tell them that we supply weapons, but we do not allow them to defend themselves. We believe that they should be allowed to neutralize the military facilities from which the missiles were fired, and, in fact, the military facilities from which Ukraine was attacked. But we must not allow them to hit other targets in Russia. I think we can do this if we really want to achieve our goal. And I think that, in essence, we are not provoking escalation. Russia is provoking the escalation,” Macron said and showed a map with objects that, according to the French President, Ukraine has the right to hit.
