Odesa customs officials exposed for abuses: they caused damage worth 13 million hryvnia

Detectives from the Bureau of Economic Security, together with prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, exposed current and former officials of the Odesa customs office of abuse of power, which allowed a company exporting sunflower crops to evade paying taxes.

The damage caused to the state amounts to more than UAH 13 million. Five participants in the scheme were informed of suspicion.

It was established that officials of customs posts of Odesa customs, on the basis of documents containing false information, issued certificates of origin of agricultural products to the exporting company.

Subsequently, these certificates were used by the exporter to freely export agricultural products and evade taxes by reducing export duties from 10% to 3.6% and 2.7%. Thus, the state budget suffered more than UAH 13 million in losses.

The pre-trial investigation continues. The full circle of persons involved in the crime is established. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided.
