The new aid package for Ukraine includes humanitarian aid, funds to support Ukrainian energy and civil services, US Vice President Kamala Harris said at a conference in Switzerland.
The United States will provide a comprehensive package of more than $1.5 billion to support Ukraine. The funds will be provided through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the US State Department, US Vice President Kamala Harris said on Saturday, June 15, at the Peace Summit opening in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, and as part of her sixth meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Humanitarian assistance, energy and civil services support
The package, among other things, includes $500 million for the energy sector of Ukraine. It is also expected to redirect $324 million from previously announced aid packages to these needs. These funds are intended to restore the energy structure destroyed by military action, protect it and expand electricity production, according to a statement released by Harris’ office.
In addition, Washington will allocate more than $379 million in humanitarian assistance to Ukraine to meet the urgent needs of refugees and internally displaced persons.
Another $300 million will be provided by the US State Department in the form of assistance to Ukrainian civil security services, in particular, border guards and law enforcement agencies, it is further noted. It should, among other things, support the investigation of more than 120,000 reported cases of war crimes and other atrocities in Ukraine, the White House said.
