Ukraine and the European Union agreed on a security agreement

Ukraine and the European Union held the final round of negotiations on a bilateral security document, which is planned to be signed in the near future.

This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The final round of negotiations on the security document was held by Deputy Head of the OP Ihor Zhovkva and Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service for Peace, Security and Defence Charles Fries.

“The negotiating teams of Ukraine and the EU have completed agreement on the text of the security treaty and agreed to sign it in the near future,” the statement says.

Media reported that EU ambassadors have already agreed on a draft bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, and they plan to finalize it by the end of June.

In the draft agreement, the EU promises to ensure the continued supply of military aid to Ukraine, help with military training, mine clearance, reforms in the defense sector, cooperate in countering hybrid threats and cyber attacks, and help with reconstruction.

European officials have stressed that the agreement is not the same as collective defense within NATO, but rather a commitment to provide Ukraine with weapons and other assistance to bolster its own security and deter any future invasion.
