Zelenskyy explained why the occupiers managed to advance at the front in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian troops continue to advance on the frontline. In his opinion, one of the main reasons for this is the lengthy recruitment of brigades that must replace tired military personnel on the front line.

He said this in an interview with French media. The President noted that 14 brigades were being prepared, which they planned to equip with Western weapons.

“Do you think that if 3 out of 14 are completed, it is possible to stop [the Russians]?” - Zelenskyy asked.

He noted that the billion-dollar aid packages approved by partners were intended to staff units that should be reserves for rotation on the battlefield. In addition, these packages served to provide brigades that were already at the front and in need of shells.

“In parallel with this, reserves were being prepared. We have already spent a year and a half on this. It’s just a constant process when you rebuild your army. When we talked about all these packages from the EU and the USA, this is staffing 14 brigades. At least 10, I’ll be honest. Because the guys are on the battlefield and there must be rotations, they need to rest,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that the Ukrainian Defence Forces “certainly” can stop the Russian advance, but at the cost of human lives and time while the brigades continue to be staffed.

Another reason is that Russian attack aircraft are afraid to go back because of the threat of being killed. The enemy has a completely different approach; they do not count their losses. Ukraine, on the other hand, fights for people’s lives and has completely different values.

Zelenskyy also noted that the Russians are advancing due to the fact that Ukraine has restrictions on strikes with Western weapons deep into Russia, against installations and aircraft that are shelling the Ukrainian border area.
