Former Minister of Environmental Protection and Nuclear Safety, Yuriy Kostenko, reported that if Russian strikes damage substations near nuclear power plants that transmit generated electricity to the grid, Ukraine will face a blackout.

"In case of their damage, nuclear power plants will shut down, and the consequences in terms of nuclear or radiation safety remain unknown. Not to mention the blackout in Ukraine," he noted.
