In Ukraine, foreigners are allowed to serve in officer positions: Zelenskyy signed the law
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law allowing foreigners and stateless persons to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in officer positions under contract.
The parliamentary website features the bill card №12023.
It is reported that on October 25, the law was returned with the president’s signature.
Before this, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the bill "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine regarding the Procedure for Contract Military Service by Foreigners and Stateless Persons in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, and the National Guard of Ukraine" on October 10.
Previously, foreigners could only serve in enlisted and sergeant positions.
The explanatory note to the bill states that the improvement of legislation is necessary due to the complex operational situation on the line of combat contact, which requires a significant increase in the number of combat personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations.
