SSU detained a GRU agent who posed as a military serviceman

He spied for the Russian Federation in 10 regions of Ukraine and wanted to join the "Wagner" group.

According to the SSU counterintelligence, the agent operated in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, and Chernivtsi regions.

The individual was identified as a 22-year-old resident of the Kherson region, who posed as a military officer and moved around our country under this "legend."

The perpetrator traveled around the regions by regular buses one after the other. In each of the regions, he attempted to scout the locations of air defense systems, as well as the coordinates of military hospitals and other medical facilities where Ukrainian soldiers were undergoing inpatient treatment.

The traitor transmitted the obtained information via messenger to the Russian intelligence service.

After completing the intelligence tasks, the occupiers promised to "evacuate" their accomplice to the aggressor country and arrange for him to join the Wagner private military company. According to the case materials, the individual wanted to join this group to fight against Ukraine.

The Security Service thwarted the agent’s plans and detained him "red-handed" while he was scouting the basing locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Mykolaiv.

A mobile phone was seized from the detainee, on which he was preparing an intelligence "report" and sending it to the contacts in the Russian GRU. The list of individuals involved has already been established by the SSU counterintelligence.

SSU investigators informed the agent of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).

The perpetrator is in custody without the right to post bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The special operation was conducted by SSU officers in the Vinnytsia region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
