British intelligence explained why the Russian army succeeded in the Donetsk region

Russian troops in the south of Donetsk region have advanced in several sections of the front, which stretches for 20 km.

This information is reportedF by the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom on X (Twitter).

British intelligence clarified that the invaders have established control over a number of small settlements within a week and advanced up to 9 km in certain areas. The agency believes that this is related to the capture of Vuhledar by the Russians at the beginning of October 2024: "Russia continues to prioritize the southern Donetsk front, maintaining an optimal force ratio in this sector, which partially explains the acceleration of the Russian offensive. Despite significant personnel losses, Russia continues active recruitment to support its actions in the south of Ukraine."
