The Ministry of Defence recalled a batch of substandard Ukrainian-made mines
The Ministry of Defence has withdrawn Ukrainian 120 mm mortar shells. Earlier, there was information online that these shells do not explode and do not reach their targets.
This was reported in a statement by the Ministry of Defence.
Earlier, journalists received video evidence of the shells’ defects from military personnel. According to their information, the problem affected various front-line areas and thousands of mines. The first complaints, according to them, began arriving in early November.
Journalists also published videos of defective mines. Recently, the chief editor of the publication, Yuriy Butusov, reported that 100,000 120 mm shells are being withdrawn from the front lines.
According to him, after he reported the problem with the shells, "commissions, inspections, service investigations began, and extensive bureaucratic work commenced."
The Ministry of Defence noted that the absence of their comments in the public sphere does not mean that the ministry "is doing nothing or failing to respond to information received from the military or appearing, notably, in the media."
They assure that they worked on this "in a closed perimeter" to ensure the security of "sensitive" information. The Defence Forces stopped using defective batches of shells and removed them. Instead, mines of foreign production will be supplied.
According to preliminary investigation results, possible causes of defects may include low-quality gunpowder or violations of ammunition storage conditions, leading to their damage.
The State Bureau of Investigation has initiated a criminal case, and "appropriate personnel decisions" regarding responsible officials have been promised. In addition, the quality of mortar mines of other calibers will be checked.
