The first unit of the "Ukrainian Legion" created in Poland has departed for Ukraine

The first unit of the "Ukrainian Legion," formed from Ukrainians living abroad, has completed training in Poland and has been deployed to serve in Ukraine.

This was reported by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar.

The idea of creating the legion was announced in July, following the signing of a bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and Poland. Recruitment of volunteers began in October in Lublin, and by November the first participants had pledged allegiance to Ukraine and started intensive training under the guidance of Polish instructors.

Bodnar noted that the deployment of the first unit indicates progress of the initiative despite criticism from some politicians. He added, "Although we would like to accelerate the process, the results are already noticeable. We are actively working on raising awareness about the legion in EU countries and beyond."

According to him, more than 1,000 volunteers have already registered in the legion. The next recruitment will begin on January 10, and the new recruits will also undergo training in Poland. The greatest interest in service is shown by Ukrainians from Poland and the Czech Republic, with applications coming from 30 countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and the USA. About 90% of the volunteers are men, the rest are women.
