In the Lviv region, city council officials who demanded bribes were detained
In the Lviv region, law enforcement agencies have uncovered a bribery scheme organized by a group of city council officials. Investigators have notified the deputy mayor and the head of the accounting and administrative support department of one of the region’s city councils of their suspicion.
They are accused of receiving undue benefits (part 3, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This was reported by the press service of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
"Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a group has been exposed and notified of suspicion. The deputy mayor and the head of the accounting and administrative support department of one of the Lviv region’s city councils have been accused of receiving undue benefits (part 3, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement reads.

According to the investigation, the officials created a scheme whereby an entrepreneur was obliged to pay 7% of the amount of contracts concluded for the purchase of computer and office equipment for the city council’s needs. For this money, they guaranteed the absence of artificial obstacles in the acceptance and transfer of goods, as well as ensuring timely payment according to the expenditure invoices.
The deputy mayor personally met with the entrepreneur, discussed the terms of the agreement, and then involved the head of the accounting department in the process. She was responsible for receiving bribes and processing financial transactions that implemented the scheme.
After receiving the next bribe of 17,000 hryvnias, the officials were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. In total, according to the prosecutor’s office, they managed to "earn" 25,000 hryvnias illegally.
Currently, both suspects have been given a pre-trial measure in the form of detention with the option of bail.
