Zelenskyy explained the success of the Kursk operation
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, explained the significance of the Kursk operation, which our military continues to carry out on the territory of the Russian Federation. These were preventive measures that prevented the enemy from occupying northern Ukraine.
This primarily concerns the large cities of Sumy and Kharkiv, where many people live, hundreds of thousands of whom could have become victims of the Russians in the event of their advance. Zelenskyy said this in an interview with the Italian television channel RaiNews24.
"We knew, and not only us—our European colleagues and American intelligence—we all shared information. Everyone understood that this was Putin’s next target—to occupy our north," stated the head of state.
The enemy was concentrating a significant number of troops in this direction, so Ukraine was forced to take offensive actions first to outpace the opponent.
"This helped us a lot. Today, there are 60,000 Russian troops there. This also helped in the Kharkiv region—they transferred many troops from Kharkiv to Kursk, and we were able to stop them in the Kharkiv region," said Zelenskyy.
He emphasized that this was a tactical success for Ukraine, not for the occupation of Russian territory—we do not need their lands and people—but for protecting our territory.
