Zelenskyy told Meloni about his contacts with Trump and Vance

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently had a phone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during which they discussed, among other things, his latest contacts with the new U.S. administration.

Zelenskyy reported this on Telegram.

He expressed gratitude to Meloni for Italy’s comprehensive support of Ukraine.

"I informed about my recent contacts with the U.S. administration, including a meeting with Vice President JD Vance and a phone conversation with President Trump," Zelenskyy stated.

According to him, the conversation also touched on coordination with partners regarding reliable security guarantees for Ukraine and potential frameworks for ensuring long-term security.

"I emphasized that the strongest and most economically beneficial guarantee is NATO membership. Until Ukraine receives an invitation, it is crucial for our partners to support the development of our powerful modern army, air defence, long-range capabilities, and a capable fleet," Zelenskyy stressed.

He highlighted the importance of Europe, the U.S., and Ukraine agreeing on a unified defense and security strategy with a clear plan of action before any negotiations.

In turn, Meloni confirmed that Italy supports Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in light of upcoming negotiations.

The leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining close coordination with European partners and the United States.
