Russian drone strike on Chornobyl NPP: the extinguishing of the outer cladding of the storage facility is underway

«As of 16:00, work to eliminate the consequences of the Russian drone strike on the ChNPP is ongoing. Firefighting continues in the filler of the outer cladding of the NSC Arch. Climbers are conducting operations to partially open the structures of the NSC Arch and fill the cavities with fire extinguishing agents under the roof of the building,» – the statement said.

The ministry noted that the situation is monitored using a UAV with a thermal imager, including the involvement of 18 units of equipment and 85 employees of the State Emergency Service.

Additionally, continuous monitoring of air quality and radiation levels is taking place at the site.

«The radiation level at the facility has not changed. The control levels of the ambient dose equivalent have not been exceeded. The radiation situation is under control,» – the agency emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, on the night of February 14, a Russian attack drone with a high-explosive warhead struck the shelter over the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

The Security Service of Ukraine discovered fragments of the body of an enemy kamikaze drone named «Geran-2» of the Shahed type inside and near the protective structure. The special service noted that, according to expert assessments, the strike on the station was deliberately targeted by the Russians.

On the evening of February 14, the fire in the outer cladding of the New Safe Confinement (NSC) arch at the ChNPP, caused by the strike of a Russian drone, was localized.
