Budanov told about the threats to the world posed by the strengthening cooperation between the Russian Federation and the DPRK

The participation of North Korean soldiers in the conflict against Ukraine could have long-term consequences for security in the Asia-Pacific region. In particular, the close cooperation between the DPRK and the aggressor country Russia poses a serious threat to the global community.

Such an opinion was expressed by the head of the DIU, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, in an interview with a South Korean publication, reports the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. He added that North Korea and Russia are deepening cooperation in the fields of technology, science, and industry.

"This cooperation is reaching its highest level and poses a serious threat to the international community. North Korea is using this war to gain combat experience and modernize its military technologies. This will have long-term consequences for the security system in the Asia-Pacific region," Kyrylo Budanov emphasized.

According to him, the DPRK group participating in the war against Ukraine has lost about 4,000 soldiers, both killed and severely wounded. Despite significant losses, North Korean forces continue to actively engage in joint operations with Russian troops, and an increase in North Korean artillery is observed on the front.

"This conflict has mobilized all the military capabilities of the countries involved. Only three states – Ukraine, Russia, and North Korea – are gaining direct experience of waging a full-scale war in the 21st century," the head of Ukrainian intelligence stated.

Meanwhile, Budanov hopes for deepened cooperation with South Korea. According to him, both countries have a common adversary – North Korea.

"South Korea has decades’ worth of intelligence on North Korea, and this information would be extremely valuable to us. Ukraine is currently gaining combat experience on its own battlefield. The exchange of this experience and intelligence would be mutually beneficial," the head of the DIU of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine noted.
