The Armed Forces of Ukraine have begun deploying "anti-drone tunnels" on roads

Ukrainian military have started installing special protective structures on roads near the frontline to counter enemy drones.

Relevant footage was published by observer GirkinGirkin on social network X.

They show wooden poles along the roads, between which protective netting is stretched.

One of the roads, presumably located in the Sumy region, has protection on the sides and above; a similar protection is in place on another road, the location of which is not disclosed.

Such protective structures were first used by Russian troops.

They were first noticed in the summer of 2023 near Bakhmut, although at the time these were not complete tunnels but separate stretched nets designed to entangle drones.

In the summer of 2024, the Russian publication TASS reported that Russian military on the Kupyansk direction began covering vehicle routes with fishing nets, creating safe corridors.

At the same time, it was noted that fishing nets are more effective than chain-link fences.

This is because chain-link nets almost guarantee the detonation of FPV drones, while in fishing nets, drones can become entangled without exploding.

The idea might be to reduce the maneuvering area for FPV drones, complicating or preventing them from striking equipment on dangerous roads.
