Attack on Chornobyl NPP: The Protective Arch over the fourth reactor has lost its functionality
According to experts, the protective Arch over the fourth reactor of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant has lost its functionality after a Russian drone attack. The results of the analysis from specialists, which will allow Ukraine to discuss possible recovery options for the Shelter with its partners, will be ready soon.
This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Svitlana Hrynchuk, according to the OBOZ.UA correspondent. The facility was attacked by the terrorist state of Russia on February 14.
"Unfortunately, after the attack, the Arch partially lost its functionality. I hope that by May we will have the results of the analysis, which we are currently conducting together with the EBRD, involving all scientific institutes related to this field. We are also involving companies that participated in the construction and installation of the Arch, who know and understand the technology well. Approximately in a few weeks, we will have the results of this analysis and a plan that we will present to our partners," said Hrynchuk.
She added that the plan would be presented in June at the Assembly of Donors to discuss the situation and possible recovery options for the Arch. According to her, there will be both short-term and long-term measures for the full restoration of the facility’s functionality.

"We are actively working on this. But to continue the planned work on the unstable structures, we must restore the Arch to prevent any leaks. Ensuring nuclear and radiation safety is the main task," concluded Hrynchuk.
