According to BBC sources, the F-16 fighter jet piloted by 26-year-old Pavlo Ivanov was likely shot down by a Russian missile on Saturday.
This information is reported by BBC Ukraine citing a government source.
"Overall, the Russians attempted to hit the aircraft with three missiles. It could have been either a guided anti-aircraft missile from the S-400 ground complex or an R-37 type ’air-to-air’ missile."
The circumstances are currently being investigated.
However, the source rules out "friendly fire" in this situation. According to him, there were no active Ukrainian air defence systems in the area where Ivanov was operating.
