According to BBC sources, the F-16 fighter jet piloted by 26-year-old Pavlo Ivanov was likely shot down by a Russian missile on Saturday.

This information is reported by BBC Ukraine citing a government source.

"Overall, the Russians attempted to hit the aircraft with three missiles. It could have been either a guided anti-aircraft missile from the S-400 ground complex or an R-37 type ’air-to-air’ missile."

The circumstances are currently being investigated.

However, the source rules out "friendly fire" in this situation. According to him, there were no active Ukrainian air defence systems in the area where Ivanov was operating.

On Saturday, April 12, during a combat mission on an F-16 aircraft, 26-year-old pilot Pavlo Ivanov was killed.

Zelenskyy noted that he was briefed by the military about this combat situation, and all the details of the event are being clarified.
