At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukraine’s red lines concerning peaceful settlement were announced
During the negotiations in London, the Ukrainian side presented three main positions within a broader long-term peace settlement.
This was reported by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhyi, during a briefing on Friday, April 25.
According to Tykhyi, they did not discuss a ceasefire at the moment, but rather a broader and long-lasting peace settlement. The MFA representative added that this is "not a surprise." In particular, he outlined the following principles:
- Ukraine will never recognize any part of its territory as Russian.
- Ukraine will never agree to any restrictions on its armed forces, defence capabilities, defence industry, or military assistance from partners.
- No third country has a veto right on Ukraine’s choice in NATO and the European Union.
Tykhyi noted the different versions of "peace plans" that have recently appeared in the media and urged focusing on official MFA statements. He called to "not react emotionally to various ’leaks’ in the media."
"45 days ago, Ukraine agreed to an unconditional, complete ceasefire... Unfortunately, in these 45 days, we have only seen missiles from Russia, drones, the killing of children, the killing of civilians, escalation of terror, and again some manipulations on what else they demand from Ukraine and its allies," added the MFA spokesperson.
On April 23, negotiations took place in London with representatives from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the USA. From Ukraine, the negotiations were attended by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, Defence Minister Rustem Umyerov, and the head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak.
From the United Kingdom, there was the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister Jonathan Powell. From France, the diplomatic advisor to the President Emmanuel Bonne, and from Germany, the Chancellor’s foreign policy and security advisor Jens Plötner.
