Russia will be forced to abandon plans to capture the whole of Ukraine, - Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Russia aims to capture the entire territory of Ukraine.
The American leader said this in an interview with NBC News on May 4.
According to Trump, if Russia wants to make a peace deal to end the war it started against Ukraine, the aggressor country will have to abandon its ambitions to occupy the entire territory of Ukraine.
"Russia will have to give up all of Ukraine. Because that’s what they want," said the U.S. leader.
The journalist asked Trump again whether he was referring to the entire territory of Ukraine, not just the part claimed by Russia. To which he responded:
"No, no. Russia will have to give up all of Ukraine. Because Russia wants the whole of Ukraine. And if I hadn’t intervened, they would be fighting for all of Ukraine now. Russia doesn’t want the strip they have now. Russia wants all of Ukraine. And if it weren’t for me, they would have continued moving forward," said the head of the White House.
Trump also mentioned that European Union leaders repeatedly asked him to call Putin, as the Russian dictator allegedly ignored their calls.
"Do you know that the leaders of the European Union repeatedly asked me to call Putin? Because he doesn’t answer their calls," added Trump.
