On Saturday, May 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, in Rome a day before the enthronement of the new Pope Leo XIV.

This was reported by "Suspilne".

It is reported that Zelenskyy discussed with Carney peace negotiations with Russia in Turkey, pressure on the Russian Federation to end the war, and the necessity of exchanging prisoners.

"We must put pressure on Russia, on Putin, to really conclude peace as soon as possible. Sanctions are very important. Therefore, we need to put pressure on him. More pressure, more sanctions. We are grateful for your sanction packages, for the support of European and American sanctions," Zelenskyy emphasized.

The leaders also agreed to discuss Canada’s presidency in the G7 and how it can help Ukraine unite the world’s largest economies around the idea of putting pressure on the Russian Federation.

"We have many important issues to discuss, the situation is very volatile, and one last remark: I am looking forward to welcoming the president in Canada in less than a month at the G7 summit," Carney noted to Zelenskyy.

In addition, Zelenskyy invited Carney to visit Ukraine.
