Complicated the work for Patriot: Ihnat explained how the Russians modernized their ballistics
Russia has upgraded its ballistic missiles, which are used for attacks on Ukraine. This has made the task more difficult for Patriot systems, which are capable of destroying ballistic targets.
This was reported by the head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, during a telethon.
"We and our partners have information that the enemy has upgraded missiles that attack in a ballistic trajectory, such as the ’Iskander-M.’ It involves the release of radar traps that each missile can deploy as it approaches the target," the spokesperson said.
Ihnat explained that after the modernization of ballistic missiles, Patriot systems, which can intercept targets, may operate less effectively.
"There is also an aspect of the ballistic missile’s flight along such a quasi-ballistic trajectory, when the missile does not move in a straight line during its flight but performs maneuvers. The Patriot system, which is supposed to shoot down the ballistic missile and calculate the interception point, finds it more difficult to determine this point," he added.
According to Ihnat, these factors complicate the interception of ballistic missiles and the operation of air defence systems but do not make it impossible.
"I believe that our partners are working on this so that these solutions are also improved in favor of the system," the spokesperson noted.
