The occupiers are massively using fiber-optic drones in counterattacks, - Ukrainian Armed Forces officer

Russian occupation forces on the front in Ukraine are increasingly using fiber-optic drones in large quantities during assaults. Ukrainian defence forces, on their part, are searching for ways to improve their electronic warfare systems.

This was reported by an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Tsekhotskyi, on the air of the FREEДОМ television channel on May 25. According to the military officer, the Russians’ goal remains unchanged – the complete capture of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.

Tsekhotskyi noted that Russian forces continue to conduct assaults in small groups and almost do not use armored vehicles. At the same time, the enemy has a large number of FPV drones on fiber optics and actively uses them in counterattacks.

"This is a new feature of recent battles. We are finding ways to counter them. That is, the increase in the number of fiber-optic drones – this is what has significantly changed on the battlefield. Almost everything else has not changed for a long time," – said Tsekhotskyi.

The officer added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are actively working on increasing capabilities to destroy the enemy – improving electronic warfare, using the same fiber-optic drones, and countering various types of Russian drones.

The military officer also reported that currently, all the attention of Russian forces is focused on Pokrovsk. Just yesterday, there were 65 attempts to breach our defences in the Pokrovsk direction, while a total of 160 combat clashes occurred on the front. 

In this direction, the enemy almost does not use heavy armored vehicles. "They might engage it once or twice a month in an attempt to break through somewhere, bypass our positions. But when the equipment appears, it immediately draws our attention, and we quickly destroy it. Therefore, mainly Russian infantry goes on assaults on motorcycles," — reported the officer.

It should be noted that a fiber-optic drone is an FPV drone controlled via an optical cable, not radio signals. Such UAVs have a thin fiber-optic thread that unwinds during flight. This makes them almost invulnerable to electronic warfare means, providing stable video communication until the moment of impact.
