The government allowed volunteers to shoot down enemy UAVs: conditions specified

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is launching an experimental project that involves the engagement of volunteer formations of territorial communities (DFTG) in air defence. This initiative aims to strengthen Ukraine’s defense against enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).

This was reported by Member of Parliament from the European Solidarity faction Oleksiy Honcharenko in his Telegram.

Such groups may include volunteers from the DFTG, as well as individuals not subject to mobilization. It is important that all participants undergo special training and receive the appropriate certificate for working with drones.

The air defence formations will have the right to detect, track, and shoot down aerial threats, using various means for this purpose—from drones and aircraft to personal weapons. In addition, volunteers will receive the necessary equipment, weapons, and ammunition from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To accomplish their tasks, they will also be able to use their own vehicles and special equipment.

Organizationally, these groups will report to the territorial defense forces, and operationally—to the Command of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This format will enable the coordination of volunteers’ actions with the military and effectively respond to aerial threats.

Regarding material incentives, project participants will receive a monetary allowance of up to 100,000 hryvnias per month, proportional to their level of participation. Funding is provided from local budgets.

The project will be in effect during the period of martial law but no longer than two years. This decision aims to enhance the country’s defence capabilities amid active aerial attacks and make the protection of the population more swift and effective.
