The Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, commented on the adoption of the controversial law No. 12414, which, according to critics, restricts the independence of NABU and SAPO.

During a briefing, Malyuk assured that neither NABU nor SAPO has been liquidated, and these bodies continue to operate. He called the adoption of the law a “return to the Constitution” and stated that the country remains a legal state.

“No one has liquidated anyone. I am not a deputy and not a legislator. This is a question for the members of parliament; they are the ones who should provide detailed explanations,” said Malyuk.

The head of the SSU also stated that the new law implements a “system of checks and balances” to prevent any body from becoming a “monster.”

Malyuk believes that for honest workers of anti-corruption bodies, the experience of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko will be beneficial, as, according to him, he will be able to enhance NABU with new approaches.

“I think they will only be delighted if the Prosecutor General offers them some fresh ideas based on his experience. Unlike them, he supported the prosecution of Yanukovych,” added Malyuk.

Let us recall that the adoption of law No. 12414 caused widespread protests in Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, and Odesa, as well as criticism from human rights defenders and international partners.
